Black lives matter

It still hasn’t ended so it starts with us.⠀
As a mother, teacher and role model to my children now and in the future here is my pledge. ⠀

I will encourage each of my children to have a colourful imagination, rather than one narrowed by others who still refuse to see the beauty of colours different to their own, because that is how we effect change. ⠀

I will encourage them to paint colours on a blank canvas to express themselves and represent others proudly and freely, rather than only within the confines of black lines on white paper, because unconditional kindness for oneself and others regardless of colour cannot have boundaries. ⠀

I will teach them to use the entire colour chart not just black and white because we are living all inclusively as ONE, not exclusively as two as some tragically still believe.⠀⠀

They will know that the world is like a rainbow. It’s made of many different colours, each of which are equally beautiful, and collectively have the ability to outshine the evil clouds of only “black or white” that sadly continue to lurk underneath.⠀

They will know that one colour is not more worthy than another. Each forms the beauty of the rainbow and there is no status to the layers of bows. ⠀

They will know that every colour has a story and that some have harder chapters than others so they need to listen and, where needed, help to stop the unforgiving storms that continue to threaten the beauty of the rainbow once and for all.⠀

Finally, they will know that at the end of every rainbow there is a pot of gold because when we are together united in an array of colours we are all rich but when separated and segregated by colour we are all poor, some more so than others. ⠀

This is what I will teach my children.⠀

To be unconditionally kind to themselves and others,⠀
To understand that the world is ugly when only viewed in either black or white,⠀
To stand up for what is right and wrong,⠀
To see the rainbow,⠀
To stop the storms, ⠀
To find the pot of gold, ⠀
Always.⠀

We need to stop this now. ⠀
It’s up to us. ⠀
