My oldest friends,
We’ve known each other for years, yet it’s been months (if not years), since we’ve caught up. Adulthood has immersed us in our own new worlds.
Many of you are deep in the trenches of motherhood with me, walking the path of love every day - towards them and often away from each other.
This season has a way of doing that doesn’t it?
It demands much of us, and in doing so, everything and everyone else has to wait.
And some of you are thick in your careers, or travel, or another path I am so proud of you for taking.
But regardless of where this finds you,
Thank you.
Thank you for waiting for me to call.
Thank you for waiting for me to send that message back.
Thank you for waiting for me to say “yes” to those overdue catch-ups.
Your patience means so much right now.
And for what it’s worth, I miss you, and all of those memories we don’t get to sit around and laugh about as much anymore.
In the moments of our mutual patience, I wonder how your days have looked since we last caught up.
Do they look like mine?
Are you still covered in your children and doing and wearing things we used to say we would never do or wear?
Or are you still focusing on your career, and travel?
And do you remember that time we...?
I have so many things I want to ask you and hear about, but I simply cannot seem to find the time these days.
Perhaps you understand.
Perhaps you don’t understand yet but you will one day.
Perhaps you are simply trying your best to understand.
I can’t wait to try and make it make sense with you one day.
But in the meantime, I need you to know I haven’t forgotten about you.
I am still here, just from afar.
And I know you are still here too, no matter what.
Because we may be old friends, but every time we do catch up, no matter the length of time since the last, it feels like we haven’t been apart.
