Daddy Daycare

When you leave your child with their dad on their own for the first time:

1. You prepare everything for them. There is no room for error.

2. You explain the instructions repeatedly.

3. You ask them to confirm that they understand repeatedly.

4. You drive out the gate.

5. You ring when you are out the gate to check that they still understand the instructions.

6. You think to yourself: I want him to appreciate what I do everyday. I hope he finds it hard today.

7. You then worry that you made it too easy for him.

8. When you get to the wherever you are going, you check your phone constantly.

9. You preface every conversation with the friends you see with “I left them with their father for the first time, should be interesting” or something along those lines.

10. You miss a call from your husband. 11. You think to yourself: Yay he is struggling, maybe she’s being difficult for him. Now he might understand how hard it can be sometimes.

12. Talk to your friends about how secretly good it is for him to know how tough it can be.

13. You go to the nearest toilet and ring him back.

14. He doesn’t answer.

15. You start to worry.

16. You think: Perhaps somethings happened.

17. You bombard him with text messages. 18. He doesn’t answer.

19. You start to think the worst.

20. You leave your outing early because you convince yourself they need you now.

21. You tell your friends that there has been an emergency.

22. You get in the car and check your phone.

23. He starts typing a text message but doesn’t send it. The small dots below your last text message on your Iphone send you into a spin.

24. You ring again.

25. There is no answer.

26. You worry the whole way home.

27. When you arrive home you race inside.

28. You wake them from the sleep they were having together on the couch.

29. He asks what you are doing home so early?

30. You explain with loud words.

31. He tells you they have had the best day.

32. You ask him why he rang.

33. He says proudly “because she said her first word and it was dad”.
