Saving your nights
The nights can feel lonely
As you sit in the dark
With your little one on you
Resting on your heart
⠀
And even though it’s special
Time you’ll always treasure
Sometimes in the hard
You can’t feel much pleasure
⠀
You count down the hours
Of sleep you may not get
Worrying about the day
That hasn’t started yet
⠀
And as you move with them
Trying to stay awake
You wonder “is it just me
Up again tonight this late?”
⠀
You open up your phone
To see who else is there
Waiting for that green dot
Beside their name to appear
⠀
You send them a message
Not caring for the time
Seeking some solidarity
Or space to have a whine
⠀
And when they do respond
No matter what they say
You know you’re not alone
That you ARE doing okay
⠀
With that it feels lighter
Like your struggle is shared
It’s easier not knowing
When you’ll get back to bed
⠀
It’s then that you realise
The ones who save your nights
Are those with you online
Tired behind screen lights.
