In their shoes
One day we will be in their shoes.
Our body will be less able, things will take longer and we will need to plan more.
We will rely on others to help us, we will have more time in the day to do what we need to but less time in the years to do what we want to.
We will look to our families more in the often lonely days and seek comfort through old photo albums.
We be grateful for those in society who make our day a little easier and the little people who make the sometimes long days worth it.
When everything that matters to us is limited, we will rely on kindness.
When everything is that little bit harder, we will rely on compassion.
When we everything seems overwhelming, we will rely on sensibility.
We won’t want to feel like a burden but equally we won’t want to feel like we don’t matter.
We won’t want to have to ask for help but equally we won’t want to lose our voice.
We won’t want to be reminded of our incapabilities but equally we will still want to do things on our own.
One day we will be elderly.
One day we may face an empty shelf. How would you feel?
