Unfiltered pregnancy
Pregnancy isn’t always perfect bumps, soft skin, luscious locks and glows. It can be imperfect bumps, blemished skin, dead hair, and paleness. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
It isn’t always glamorous or perfect or graceful. In fact a lot of the time it can feel the opposite.⠀
It can look like your head over the toilet bowl, you trying to skirm awkwardly into compression tights and your torso oblivious to the state of your legs and toe nails which are lost underneath. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
You can have marks that weren’t there before, hair in funny places and a constant heaviness that is not just a number on the scale. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
And that’s ok because pregnancy is not meant to be perfect, glamorous or graceful. ⠀⠀
It is a process that requires change, sacrifice and growth.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
Our bodies are not made of brick and mortar.⠀⠀
They are made to adapt, to move, to evolve and when it comes to pregnancy they do, quickly. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
In only nine short months they create a new life from scratch. A life that relies solely on them for growth, nourishment and safety.⠀⠀
It’s no small feat.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀
So we shouldn’t expect anything more from them. We should just try and embrace the ungraceful, the unglamorous, the imperfect. Because at the end of the day, they are often just the by-products of a process. A process that creates a little end product who gives us far more than a few insecurities and sees us as nothing other than perfect.
