A mum and a pram

I am about to tell you something
It’s in the pipeline
It’s important
You need to know the background
Bear with me
But relax, it’s not some sort of endorsement.

I used to be a good runner
I could run for miles
It was a breeze
Since having a baby
It’s much harder
It’s certainly not done with ease.

It used to come so naturally
It was automatic
It was sweat-free
It’s a lot different with a baby
There’s a pram
It’s definitely a lot harder to breathe.

It is not possible to run like I used to
My body is different
That I can now see
It’s about changing my expectations Being realistic
And above all, being kinder to me.

I still want to challenge myself
Of course I do
It’s who I am
This time it involves my daughter
Both of us
Me running behind a pram.

We’re doing Round the Bays this year
In Wellington
16 February 2020
I’ll be running 6.5kms
With a baby and gear
The latter of which there will be plenty.

This run isn’t just for me
It’s for New Zealand
It’s for mental health
685 took their lives in 2019
It’s devastating
A tragic cry for help.

I have not experienced it personally
I’m lucky
I’m one of the few
But I know many that have
It’s a pain like no other
They more often than not see blue.

I implore you to support this mum with a pram
Please do
It’s an important cause
We’d love for you to help us
By donating or sharing this
Because it might make one more person hit pause.
