From a Kiwi
You are Australia
We are New Zealand
Although separated by water
United we stand.
We have had our history
Not all has been great
We quickly forget that
There is no room for hate.
We are there for each other
Through thick and thin
You are nearly family
We are closely akin.
You were there when we needed you There were not questions asked
When Christchurch was abused through terror
You were were supportive and steadfast.
It was a tragedy for us
We will never forget
We felt helpless and hard done by
We didn’t foresee such a threat.
Without the support of others
It would have been difficult to mend
But that hasn’t been a problem
In you we have a friend.
The tables have sadly turned
It’s a tragedy that you now face
From afar we feel helpless
Our hearts break for you at pace.
Everyday we think of you often
As our skies present as a red smokey haze
We wonder what more we can do for you We want to help you out of this craze.
If nothing else, we must tell you
We must let you know
We believe in you Aussie’s
In whom natural strength is bestowed.
As koala’s you fight it
One day at a time
You are tired but resilient
You will beat this natural crime.
As New Zealanders, as residents
Of the land of the long white cloud
We feel helpless, we feel broken
But of you we are proud.
We are supportive kiwis
Like koala’s, we are at risk but strong
You can beat this horror as we did
We pray it will be over before too long.
