Peeves to Pines
Finger smudges on the mirrors;⠀
Toilet paper roads through the house;⠀
“Mum mum mum” on repeat;⠀
Muddy footprints on the carpet;⠀
Crayon marks on the walls;⠀
Pot-plant dirt sprinkled on the porch;⠀
The clang of wooden spoons and pots;⠀
Little fingers in my meal;⠀
Clean socks worn outside;⠀
⠀
But wait there’s more. ⠀
⠀
Puddles in the kitchen;⠀
Missing pages in my book;⠀
Food stains on my top;⠀
My underwear sprawled throughout the house;⠀
LEGO in my coffee;⠀
Soft toys in the bath.⠀
The remote control always missing;⠀
Sweeping piles destroyed;⠀
Crumbs in the car seat;⠀
⠀
But wait there’s more. ⠀
⠀
Pegs all over the lawn;⠀
Toilet rolls down the toilet;⠀
Baby wipes everywhere in sight;⠀
Cat food in milk bottles;⠀
Ripped newspaper in the bed;⠀
Spoons in the vege garden;⠀
Makeup brushes in the dog bowl;⠀
Honey fingers on the television screen;⠀
My Iphone storage always full. ⠀
⠀
The things that annoy me the most now will one day be things that I miss more than anything.⠀
I know I will.⠀
One day when I get the clean, quiet and orderly house that I so often find myself pining for in the midst of messy motherhood, I will be dissatisfied. ⠀
I know I will. ⠀
This chapter may be a messy and chaotic one, but it is where some of the best memories will be made. ⠀
